Irish Spring body wash is made with biodegradable cleansing ingredients.*  Irish Spring bar soap comes in a recyclable carton made from 90% recycled paperboard, 60% post consumer content.

The new structures are made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). HDPE is a #2 plastic which is a commonly recycled plastic, making our new bottles more easily recyclable. 

The new bottles also contain 50% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic. In other words, PCR is made out of used plastic that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. This reduces our usage of “virgin” (new) plastics. Before 2021, the old bottles were made out of green colored PET (Polyethylene terephthalate). Green/colored PET is not as easily recyclable because there is a limited secondary market for colored PET plastics.

The 20oz cap is made of PP (Polypropylene), #5 plastic. These #5 plastics are recyclable and the best practice is to keep the cap on the bottle when placing it in the recycling bin.

The pump on the 30oz bottles is not currently recyclable due to the metal spring but Colgate Palmolive is working to develop a recyclable pump in coming years.

The new bottles support the following 2025 sustainability targets: 

• Achieve 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging
• Eliminate one third of our new plastics
• Achieve 25% PCR in plastic packaging

Irish Spring body wash contains a 24-hour odor protection  for long-lasting freshness. While still retaining the skin’s natural moisture and free from parabens and phthalates long-lasting freshness.

In general, you should not use shower gel for men in place of shampoo. The ingredients in each product clean your hair and skin differently. When using Irish Spring bar soap in the shower, work up a good soapy lather in your hands before applying over your body. After applying the soap, you can exfoliate your skin with a loofah or washcloth if desired. When using Irish Spring bar soap to wash your hands, be sure to wet your hands first before lathering with the bar soap. Once you have a nice sudsy lather, scrub for 20 seconds between your fingers and all other surfaces of your hands, then rinse under clean running water.
